Real Estate Marketing Tips for New Agents

As the real estate market continues to improve and grow, there are new agents entering the profession at a steady pace. This website and blogs give real estate marketing tips to new agents. In this blog, you’ll find general and helpful information related to real estate marketing.

Tip #1 – Real estate marketing is a service industry. Any service industry can also be called a social industry. You need to hone your social skills to succeed. These social skills apply to buyers, sellers, and fellow real estate marketing professionals. The skills needed include:

  • Good listening and communication skills
  • The ability to work well with and get along with others
  • A solid work ethic
  • Be diplomatic

If you are a maverick that often goes against the social grain, real estate marketing may not be a profession that works well for you. However, social skills can be learned and practiced. If you’re sincere about a real estate marketing career, you may just need to bone up a little on these skills.

Tip #2 – You must be self motivated. While you’re working in a team environment, you’re still self-employed. You need to have a personal business plan and you need to stay in control of your business. The team isn’t going to pay your bills. You’re working for commissions and your business plan needs a strong element to support collecting those commissions. Then you need self motivation to make it happen.

Tip #3 – Keep a full pipeline. Always be trying to bring in more business. You may have two or three deals that you are sure will close this month. Unfortunately, even the most solid appearing deals occasionally fall apart at the closing table. If you let go an opportunity to have another deal in the pipeline, this is when you’ll most regret it. That brings us to real estate marketing tip #4.

Real estate marketing

Real estate marketing is all about having the skills to make the sale and collect your commission!

Tip #4 – Save for the Slow Times. Real estate marketing can be very cyclical. There will be good years, bad years, and years in-between. Real estate marketing is also seasonal. Spring is usually the best season followed by summer and fall. Business typically falls off during the winter. You need to have at least six months of savings to get you through the lean months. Many experienced agents make it a rule to have a full year of savings.

Tip #5 – Don’t over do it. Yes, it’s important for you to be motivated and to be dedicated to your team. Still, you need to be careful not to make your real estate marketing career a 24/7 career. When business is good, it can be easy to over work yourself. However, a dead-tired real estate marketing professional is good to no one. Know what your limits are and schedule regular time away from work to get the rest you need to succeed.
